Its shape-shifting form of displacement and physicality, in combination with a slightly awkward method of locomotion gives the sculpture great potential as a new character on the River Thames and beyond.Īn exhibition of a selection of the drawings was on show at the Good Hotel in the Royal Victoria Dock, plus an there was an opportunity to meet the artist, to discuss the development and making of Mudskipper. The original idea was formed out of the surreal notion of the action of a ship or boat climbing out of the water very slowly, in a similar way to a crocodile sliding down a muddy African riverbank in the Sir David Attenborough film, Planet Earth.

Most recently works added to this extensive project were the series of drawings Ten Ways to Make a Ship Walk published in 2016. James has been planning The Walking Ship in numerous drawings since 2010. MUDSKIPPER also points to a greater journey or mission, recalling the eccentric personas of Werner Herzog’s Fitzcarraldo or Wes Anderson’s Steve Zissou, and confronting the precarity of human existence and our contemporary technological desires.

In line with Capper’s practice, the amphibious sculpture explores the dynamic relationship between biological ingenuity, biomechanics, and the human. MUDSKIPPER’s ability to change its environment, combined with its engineered hydraulic jacks for land-based locomotion, gives the sculpture a brave and exigent new character on the water. I'm usually the only guy under 40 out there and I help out and listen to these old timers because they are a wealth of knowledge.Inspired by the evolution of the vertebrates, and echoing the brave leaps made by those into a new and unknown world, MUDSKIPPER challenges and invigorates the definitions of engineering and art and the interconnections between the two. Luckily I'm in a good area where I have a lot of retired people who all love to train for hunt tests and field trials.
Mud skipper full#
Once I started doing two dogs it got real expensive for a full weekend on a college kids salary which was when I started. I run NAHRA tests only because my BLF isn't akc, and mainly that NAHRA are more hunting based for my liking and they are fairly inexpensive too. Nothing like seeing the lightbulb go on in the field. I started with my current dog, and I'm working with my wife's where I started formal obedience at age 6 (wife kinda dropped the ball). He gets more rest when he goes to a hunt test or SRS event. He never has time off brother, 7 days a week with long days. I'm good friends with Steven Durrance who runs a kennel, one of the best pro's in the US. Just get a kick out of taking a high drive pup and making a finished dog out of them.

My grandfather was and taught me before E-collars were around. I would say my first love is training retrievers, not a pro. I can't believe that guy tried to pass his self off as the brit trainer, what a classy guy. I train labs for friends of my, my wife gets a little piss when I bring them home for a couple of weeks, like force fetching them -she gets over it. I saw by your pictures that you run HRC events with your dogs, I'm a HRC guy. I have a tarpon 120, and she is a firebreather and didn't think the two would mix, lol. You're right dogyak, there's one in every bunch! By the way, do you hunt with your dog in a kayak?ĭogyak wrote:Hey AJ, No I've have not tried to hunt my lab out of the yak. He led me on to believe he was robert milner, the famous dog trainer, not the bratty little boy.
Mud skipper how to#
Not only that but do you notice how he leaves out the JR in all of his advertising stuff? He tried contacting me about shipping motors, basically trying to get me to tell him how to ship his product, before he started beaver damn mud runners. I don't want swamp runner getting confused with him and his terrible business practices. The dude is a squirelly whack job and I just couldn't bite my tongue any longer. He tried to call me out about attacking him but every dealer has slews of emails from him making threats, insults, sending pictures of his naked but with a face drawn on it etc.

different than the mud skipper guy here but just the same trying to ride the coat tails of the swamp runner design. īigbrit is another biter on swamprunner name. A fact of life, but good you were trying to keep it straight. You know, their will always be a guy like that who wants to profit off other's. Dogyak wrote:AJ, you were giving him the what for on DHC I saw.
